DOWNING STREET PETITION TO USE BACTERIO-PHAGE THERAPY.

A Downing Street Petition has been started to make the NHS offer bacterio-phage therapy to people who they cannot cure using conventional antibiotics. Although phage therapy has been around for over 80 years, mainly in Eastern Europe and also by the British in India in the early part of the 20th century, since antibiotics were 'invented' in the mid 1940s phages have practically disappeared in Western medicine.

The expertise and skills to use phages have been lost and even though antibiotics seemed the miracle drug, the constant rise in drug-resistant bacteria. like MRSA, has taken the shine off antibiotics somewhat, leaving us wondering where we go from here.
